Cozy Master for Fall

I always love switching our things in our rooms in the home to make it more seasonally fit. A more textured quilt and busier rug for Fall/Winter or lighter colors and sheer curtains for summer. I recently ordered this rug to put in Drake's new room but it just felt wrong in there so I did a pivot and updated our master bedroom with this statement piece. It feels just right in here making it nice and cozy as the temperature cools and blankets are bursting from every corner.

I mean truly though, a rug will transform a space entirely. Do you shop your own home and do the seasonal switches, too?

Drake Turns 17

It really is crazy just typing it out that Drake, my dude, turned 17 a couple weeks ago. I came into his life when he was 4 years old and spending the last decade+ growing a relationship together is something so special.

He's been asking for his room at our new(ish) house to be painted dark so while him and Andrew we're on a 24 hour road trip to Colorado buying a 1929 Ford hot rod - more on that later - I knew it was my chance to knock it out. They left at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon and I was in there by 6pm painting until 3am. Monday was decorating date and styling so when they got home at 8pm Monday evening, he walked into a brand new refreshed space he'd been asking.

He's had Beddy's for the last 4 years so it was a no brainer to stick to that and I got the Erin set and then pieced together a few throw blankets, pillow covers and I think it turned out so beautifully! It feels masculine and bold but of course, the material itself is just so cozy. Code AUBREY will get you 15% off anytime you shop at Beddy's.

Now for the paint detail, we used Sherwin Williams Greenblack in a satin finish. We actually had this leftover from painting our kitchen island and our outdoor kitchen so I just didn't want to spend anything more and use the resources I had on hand. What do you think? My goal was pulling in the dark he envisioned, a couple of his favorite artists with decor and plants to make it all pop. I'd say it was worth it and he was elated.

Black & White Floral

photos // @annaelainephotography

Remember a few weeks ago I had the itch to paint the girls room? Well I did and then I knew we needed a POP of something. Something whimsy and soft but bold enough to just make it absolutely stunning. I went with this Black and White Floral peel and stick wallpaper from Anewall because we've used them in the past and always have great success. It added just such a beautiful touch and I couldn't be happier with it.

FAQs -

can it be applied to textured walls?
+ they advice not to do this but we’ve done 4 wall murals from them and always done it on textured walls. 😜

does it come off easy?
+ yes! such a great option for renters to make it feel more homey and just peel when you’re moving out or as homeowners if you want to change things up.

does it damage the walls?
+ we’ve removed 2 of the murals before with zero damage. a couple spots of paint want peeled off but nothing major & easily fixed with some fresh paint.

is it wallpaper or vinyl?
+ this specific one we did it vinyl but every design Anewall offers is up to you to choose: pre-pasted wallpaper, peel & stick or traditional wallpaper. you decide!

Fresh Paint in the Girls Room

I did it! We've been in our home 16 months and from around this time last year, I had swatches sitting in their dresser drawer because I had the urge to paint it something a tad moody that's like a dusty mint green/blue. Well this past weekend I was doing the walk around the house with a trash bag purging all the things and found those swatches and an hour later I was at Sherwin Williams getting paint. I move quick sometimes after stalling for over a year. Ha!

The original color was Agreeable Gray by SW and what we have our entire house from when we moved in and the builder painted. This is the first room to get some color but a few others have wallpaper or shiplap done. I really don't know why I waited so long when it was only 3 hours of work and I'm just ohh-ing and ahh-ing over it now finished.

The sweet chair, lamp and mirror are from my Gam Gam and I'll cherish them being part of this room for the girls. I'm linking up as much as I can with sources for you all and if there's something missing, it's not available or thrifted. I hope that helps!

beds, bedding, curtains, canopy, dresser, knobs (old, similar here), shelving (old, similar here), basket, small table & chairs, dolls, white noise machine, diffuser, oils, oil holder, polka dot comforter, nightstand (thrifted), canvas

Our New Couch

We did it! We had a mishap with our couch a few months ago that meant it was time to finally buy a new one. We loved our previous one from American Furniture Warehouse but life... ie: kids throwing up means it's time to say goodbye and get something a little more durable and easy to clean. I had always always always pictures soft and light and bright for our couches. Cloth and a light linen or suede and then I start couch hunting and I kept drawing to a dark cognac leather. It felt very bold and very out of my comfort zone but I couldn't stop thinking about them when I was looking and finally bit the bullet.

This was Andrew's pick right away. Leather is his dream and honestly, I was so sick of the light fabric couches everyone has. I am over the farmhouse looking style and want to really hone in on what draws me in. I can't quite pin point what I'd call my style but when I'm shopping I think a little rustic, eclectic and vintage with some softer dainty touches. That doesn't even make sense when I type it out but ultimately, I want people to walk in our home and feel comfortable. I want it to be inviting and cozy and like they want to cozy up on the couch with a blanket and feel at home.

This couch did that for me.

We had been shopping for about a month both online and in stores and we had been to Living Spaces 3 times before looking at this couch. It just didn't feel right. We actually were there to buy it and then I saw this Burton leather sectional. But shocker - it was out of stock. So we left empty handed. That night I was looking online at 2am and it dawned on me how it was advertised as a sectional and that showed out of stock but when you look at the individual pieces, the sofa and corner was available!! It was the love seat size that wasn't and lucky for me, I want 2 of the sofa sizes anyway to make it a bigger sectional than advertised. I immediately got up and added it all to my cart on my computer and first thing when Andrew woke up that morning we ordered! It came the next day and I've been in Burton cognac leather heaven ever since.

Really though, it's cozy and plush and BOLD and inviting and exactly what I pictured. And even a little boho. It checks off the eclectic piece of my style perfectly. So if you're shopping, you can view the collection of this couch over here!

Whimsical & Girly Playroom

We are officially in the new house! We moved in December 16th, celebrated Christmas and the New Year freshly settled and we've been working on getting each room and nook unique and decorated just for us. It's been a dream seeing it all come to life since May last year watching it be built and the journey that was and now here we are! Soaking it up and living life in these 4 walls.

One of the first spaces I tackled was the playroom for the kids so they had somewhere to enjoy and escape. We decided to add a mural wall in this room to make it extra girly and whimsical. We did the Tawny design (link here) and it's everything I imagined it would be. Add in a few more touches to make it their own, like Cuddle & Kind dolls, a bulletin board to display their art and books in every corner to dig into - they love it all!

An Office Update

wallpaper | desk | chairs | diffuser | cake stand

My husband is the sweetest. A couple weeks ago when I was looking at wallpapers for our office he made the comment that I'm the one in there the most and I should decorate and choose as I please. We share this space and while he is in here, it's not a ton so when he said that, I was pumped to be able to get exactly what I envisioned!

I love working. My job is the greatest and being able to have the designated space and a space I like to be in is even better. We had a custom desk built from our friend Mike at Dec1Designs and it anchors the whole wall so I went with the Vintage Peonies Wallpaper from Anewall. I was torn between this and this lighter wallpaper, but because we've not done a dark, bold wall, I went with it!

Our wall was a custom size so they made the mural to our dimensions and it shipped right away. They have three different options of finish you can choose from - traditional wallpaper, pre-pasted wallpaper and self-adhering vinyl. We went with the latter because we've used vinyl on our textured walls before and had good experiences with it. It's not recommended to use their products on textured walls but rather smooth surfaces as the texture can create air bubbles that expand. That said, you know I went with it regardless - best judgment here, friends!

I am linking as much as I can above and as we get things finished up in the whole room, I'll be back and sharing again! I need to shop and style a shelving unit, D1D is making a console table and oversized cork board for me and then a rug to top it off!

Happy Tuesday, friends.

The Girl's Shared Bedroom

metal beds - walmart | bedding - beddy's | art - minted | pillows (in store only)- at home | dolls - cuddle and kind | shelves + storage bins (old) - crate and kids | wood signage - kinch design co. | wall decals - urban walls | curtains (in grey) - anthropologie

We did it! We switched the girlies over to a shared bedroom about 2 months ago and while it was a long drawn out decision to finally do it, I'm happy we did! In our current home we have the bedroom space for everyone to have their own but not a set out office space and while it worked good for us in the master, I wanted a room for Andrew and I both to be able to hide away and get things checked off our to-do list. That alone was my motivating factor and in my head I was worried about the girls adjusting but there was nothing to worry about.

All went well, the girls first started with Hollyn in her crib and Emmy in her twin but about 2 weeks in, we switched sis to her twin bed so they both were good to go. Best decision! Hollyn is so lax and chill and Emery is very OCD and first born so there were a few snags of Hollyn talking at bedtime and Emery yelling at her "Go to sleep!! Mom!! Hollyn isn't going to sleep" - but minor snags! ;)

We updated the decor when they moved into this room which was originally Hollyn's room. I love the dresser as it was my in-laws first dresser when they got married. Plus the storage and shelving is so cute and functional, it made sense to do this room which more neutral elements.

I was so excited to add a statement wall and picked the Eden decals from Urban Walls. I am so in love with the warm, dusty mauve and orange tones right now so this was speaking my language!! I just had to make it happen. We did one order and they're all separate pieces so I was able to get creative and move things around to display exactly how I wanted. Two hours later and I was freaking obsessed. Literally beaming with how stunning it turned out - and so easy to apply!

We're about 5 weeks post getting this room all together and styled and they are constantly playing in here, reading books, playing dress up and using their cute dollhouse. Plus Emery invites anyone who comes over to look her the pretty flowers on the wall so that's a win - worth the time it took to strategize how I wanted them placed.

Do you have your little ones sharing a space? Do you love it? Regret it?

Creating a Cozy Bedroom for the Holidays

this post is in collaboration with At Home
but you all know we love them and opinions are our own!

Since I'm dying to deck our halls, we decked Drake's bedroom which doubles as a guest room so I wanted to share a few ways we love creating a cozy space not only in the main common areas, but also bedrooms to make every room and all your home feel nice and festive!

add twinkle lights

We have become totally obsessed with twinkle lights for all the rooms, all the time, but having them strewn around bedrooms on headboards or mirrors are SO FESTIVE and we love it. All the kids sleep with them on, Andrew and I wind down each night with them and a diffuser going and it's just so cozy and gives me all the feels every time they're on.

small christmas trees

We started this last year for the girls with a small white one but I've been wanting to add a small flocked tree to the bunch for a couple years now. We found this one at At Home and pulled some neutral ornaments and ribbon to decorate it and it's perfect, quaint, simple, but festive for a bedroom! I'm planning on the white one for the girls again and a cluster of 3-4 in our master bedroom.

festive throw pillows and cozy blankets

Does this throw pillow not scream It's a Wonderful Life? I saw it and needed it and knew it would be a great addition for this bedroom. Also the spotted faux fur one?! I couldn't not get it - which also applied for the buffalo check throw blanket. We love getting an oversized basket for bedrooms and filling it to the brim with cozy blankets because nothing is better than some cold sheets, a cozy throw blanket and some hot cocoa. You feel me?

What would you add to make a space feel cozy and inviting for the holidays?!
