4 Tools for Toddlers Succeeding at Chores
When I say Emery has the softest, sweetest heart on the planet, you have to understand it's so very true. It's innocent and she just wants to do all the things right and right the very first time. She strives to be the best and gets so conflicted when she can't quite get it right and she has the most OCD tendencies I've ever seen in a little tiny soul before.
So when we introduced her chore chart a bit over a year ago, she was so upset when she wasn't able to accomplish making her bed by herself, which was on her task list. It was a struggle every single day and she was always crying and crying in defeat. I saw Beddy's on instagram maybe 6 months ago and kept toying with the idea of their product - well we jump on board after her most recent meltdown to help ease her frustrations and make doing her daily tasks enjoyable again - seriously, she loves her chores!
The whole concept is a zipper! Kind of like a sleeping bag, but better, and stylish! I was skeptical but it's a dream, so much ease and quality material and comfort and look don't go out the window. It's hilarious how happy she gets about making her bed every day now and shows everyone who comes over her "zipper bed". Total win! I seriously loooove products that make being a mom easier.
Let's break down a few things that have helped us make doing chores with toddlers successful!
Tweak items in the home to make their chores more on their level. Like we did with her bed, we've also switched locations of the dishes and utensils so she can easily empty the dishwasher or put her dishes in the sink for those. Whether it's adding a step stool somewhere so they can reach an item they need to grab for doing their chores, or leaving a pair of shoes out for them to throw on if they need to pick up toys outside - do it!
Create a chore chart!! Nothing got Emery more excited about a chore chart. It gives her the sense of accomplishment and she loves checking off the circles. It also helps me stay on track with doing them daily to make sure she's earning her "allowance". You can download the chore chart I made Emery and Drake, here.
Pick a prize or allowance each week they will be earning. We started out with a prize box where I stocked up on $1 and $1 items from Target and when she filled her chore chart for the entire week, she was able to pick something from the prize box. Now, we've opted for doing money because we're wanting her to learn the value of tithing, saving, and "play" money.
Make it fun! Play music, make chores part of the every day routine so it doesn't become a hassle or pulling teeth for doing them. I try to do my daily house duties right along with the three kids during their chore time so everyone has tasks going on and things to be checking off their lists.

So I’m gonna give you guys a little backstory... this morning I was just feeling off and emotional. Everything was kind of getting to me and I couldn’t pinpoint why. I even sat down with Andrew and was like "I don’t know what it is but everything is triggering me at this point right now and everything is making me feel insecure and upset." So having that disclosed, going into the event tonight for The Foundress, I was worried not knowing how to explain myself not knowing what to say I do. Looking back at what I just said at the event, I was speaking as if my identity within my children
Don’t take that the wrong way because I absolutely love my babies but my identity is not in my children - my identity is found in Christ and knowing that I am worthy. So when I’m thinking about a bio or explaining who I am, it shouldn’t be I’m a mom and so much of what I said tonight was saying that I am a mom and that’s it.
Yes, I have that title of Motherhood but when it comes to what I do, I am a business owner, a graphic designer, a wife, daughter, sister, friend, and I am a child of God. He has abundantly blessed my life and my family through business that has come from this online platform just having an online presence where so many of you follow my story. I never take that for granted. I love sharing and being open with you guys I think the transparency behind being able to do that and the vulnerability of that is something I’m meant to be sharing.
That doesn’t mean that motherhood is inferior to having this online presence and it’s not to say that the online presence is inferior to being a mom or a business owner or whatever it is that I’m doing with my time. I think I struggle explaining what it is I do because they have my hands in so many things right now.
I have this Instagram that I manage, I have clients where I’m managing their social media and building out their website and online presence, I am sharing my love of essential oils, and then I still do blog designing outside of social media.
I’m in a season of life I’m wearing so many hats that I don’t exactly know what to say but on a regular basis, on an everyday basis, I’m always a mom. I’m always putting on the Motherhood hat. I think it’s easy for me to identify saying I’m a mom and I’m here to encourage you in motherhood and while that’s true, I always have wanted to share and be raw in the mess of life and the mess of motherhood and that it’s not perfect and it’s not easy. I’m one melt town away from losing my damn mind and that’s okay - that’s life!
So when I’m really trying to find the core of who I am and what it is that I’m doing, I don’t really have that definitive answer.
I do know that I am a child of God and I have been very open recently after doing the Bible Journaling Challenge, that I am wanting to share and be a light to His Kingdom with this platform. Which in turn, I think that is why some people have fallen off and that’s okay too, because it may not be your cup of tea. Let’s be honest - I’ve invited you guys to unfollow me! I mean, I don’t think it gets any more vulnerable or open than that.
I have evolved and changed so much since my blog started when Andrew and I got married - which is eight years ago - and I’m not the same person. I’ve grown and changed but I’ve also become a mother and I’ve also started business ventures and stopped business ventures, I worked for our church for a while but in all of that I’ve built this platform to be able to share and be open with you all. I’ve made so many mistakes and I’ve done so many things wrong and I look back thinking “why did I do that? What was the purpose of that?” but I do know I want to share.
I want you guys to know you are also worthy.
So I’m gonna leave it at this - I know motherhood can be isolating and I know motherhood is hard - heck, you guys have seen me crying about rough days with my kids. I’ve never had anything I shared resonated so much with someone! That vulnerable moment brought me the most rewarding reading plan I’ve invested in! It's the YouVersion Bible app and the plan is "Overwhelmed by My Blessing: Encouragement for Moms". That’s what this community has! That’s what this business of mine has become - sharing and connecting and talking.
And while Instagram is ever-changing, I will still be here sharing and talking because I want you to know that I’m going through the same thing right now and if I could just sit with you and give you a hug and say you’re doing a great job, whether that is through motherhood, or a job that’s really difficult, or a season of life giving you trial after trial, I want to be there through this community, this online platform with Instagram waiting to encourage you and uplift you!
So if I could go back and do you tonight over with The Foundress speaking about who I am and what it is that I do --
I am Aubrey Kinch. I started a blog when my husband and I got married because we had no social media so we wanted a way to keep our friends and family connected. I married into having the sweetest little son and he’s just my angel! He’s my light. We have two little girls who give me a run for my money and leaving me crying to my instagram friends. I share about motherhood struggles, the triumphs, the trials, and everything in between. Like ballet class and Friday Night Lights down to how I'm OCD and like to keep our home organized and clean, even with kiddos.
I am a graphic designer who loves a pretty feed but when you go to my story, it’s unfiltered, it’s raw, it’s messy, and I hope that’s what you take away from what I share. So in the chaos of kiddos, co-parenting, balancing a business all while being a wife and mother, Christ is the center. My hope is when you come to my feed, you can feel inspired and uplifted and encouraged.
I’m honored to be a part of The Foundress to be able to share those successes and failures and get to know everyone in that new community. Coley and Lindsey, thank you for giving me the ability to share my story.

Magic Sleepy Dust

Dare I say, Hollyn is finally sleeping better?! We went through a weird stage all over again where she wasn't sleeping because of her teeth and all she wanted was mama. We removed the DockATot just after she was 12 months and finally ordered a second one to have her get back into it and see if that would help.
Well, it did.
She's been sleeping way better, more in chunks, and we aren't so zombie status. We had moved the other DockATot we had to Emery's room because she started rolling out of her bed pretty frequently and it was just so sad waking up to her crying from falling off her bed. This is why I love this product. It's good for my 3.5 year old and it's good for my 16 month old. Winnnnning!
I have so many friends and family asking me about the DockATot and if it's worth it - 100%! It's the product I recommend to be at the top of their baby registries or to find one from a friend who is no longer using it. It's just that good. Magic sleepy dust and all.
What are your thoughts? Is the investment worth the sleep? That's a no brainer for me! I would recommend having two covers on hand so you can wash one and have a second to throw on when you need to. We have pink, white, floral and I'm debating a fourth because the new patterns are so lovely! ;)
Motherhood
Today was rough. Like really, really rough. I sat and cried in my car, I cried getting the girls bathed, I cried to my instagram audience sharing how the thick of motherhood is hard. It's really effing hard. I have days I snap over and over, I find myself wishing away the day and counting down the minutes to bed time and I have days I am just done. I can't fathom having one more melt down or tantrum and I've mentally thrown in the towel.
Today, I found out that's normal. It's common and it's welcomed and supported by all those other moms out there going through the exact same thing. I strive to raise my babies with a heart for Jesus, with manners and politeness, with respect and compassion - but a lot of my days, I catch myself wondering when the heck is that going to sink in.
But reality check. They're babies and kids. They aren't grown adults with it's expected to have our tantrums together (for the most part) and their life completely in order. They have these emotions they are trying to learn and deal with; love, anger, excitement, fear, joy, sadness... and I'm hear to show them that's okay to have them all! God made them that way! It's my job to teach them how to honor those emotions, feel them, and share them respectfully when the time is presented.
Let me say, the middle of Target using the anger emotion, throwing yourself on the ground... not my favorite time for you to use that one. Could we maybe save it for the car?
Last night I found myself with the above situation happening with all eyes of people around me ON ME. Looking at me with judgment and disgust. Not a single person said "you're doing a good job, mama!" or something like "they love you and keep doing what you're doing" I think anything encouraging in that moment would've lightened my heart and given me some hope. So my encouragement to you - next time you see a mama with kiddos all over, losing their minds and she looks mortified and hurt and embarrassed... go give her a hug and say "you are doing a great job."
And if you're one of the people who responded to my instagram story today, thank you. You held my hand today and I felt it. It takes a village and I'm blessed by mine.

It's been a slow progression to learning more about myself as I've developed into a mom and evolved over those years. I'm finding doing things outside our home keeps things fresh and everyone in a better mood. I also know I'm introverted and don't like making the initiative to get out of our house or would happily bail on plans if the other party is feeling ehhh about them, too.
Not great traits to carry through life.
We live in a neighborhood filled with mamas and kiddos that are right around the same age as my kids. I've also had such an amazing opportunity meeting other like-minded, awesome women and moms through social media, all in our area! I was connected with West Valley Moms and now with Barre3 North Peoria and there's a whole niche of people who run the same circle. It's kind of amazing.
My goal this season of life is to step out of my comfort zone, meet those mamas for lunches, play dates, workouts and dance class. Be intentional with the time I have with the kids when our nanny isn't with them and make memories they'll cherish. I have vivid memories when my mom would babysit and we had the same routine of park trips with all the kids, summers running through the sprinklers, gym at the YMCA and t-ball practice on the weekends with all our neighborhood friends.
I want to be that mom who creates those awesome standards for my kids.

I'm going to be as open and transparent with you right now as I can be without being too vulnerable and sharing too much. How vague is that?! ;)
Since Hollyn was born, I've had a hard recovery. Like HARD. Physically, it took a toll on my body that I never endured after having Emery and it's something just in the last 2 months, I've finally started to feel better. I've been to my OB, my primary doctor, a specialist, and they all were leaning towards pushing me having a hysterectomy. Vague enough? Again, sorry!
Because it's been a huge adjustment and learning curve just functioning on a regular basis, I've been trying to find ways to keep my mood lifted and on top of everyday life and going on a walk helps tremendously!
People told me that from the beginning and although we were out walking a lot when Hollyn was first born, it fizzled out because of the temps increasing in AZ so now that's it's cooled again, it's such a mood booster! I grab the kiddos, fill our big bag of goodies, blankets, and snacks for the park and hit to road in our Quinny x Rachel Zoe Moodd. We blare some music, laugh and chase each other the whole way and by the time we're home an hour or so later, we have happy hearts, tired feet and ready to get some down time.
But that fresh air just makes the day so much better!

Happy Birthday Hollyn!
She's ONE!! It blows my mind it's already been a year when on one hand I feel like she was just born and on another, I feel like she's been in our family forever. I tried hard to document her first year as well as I did with Emery but I fell short. Something I regret but have to accept and that's okay... she's so loved and cherished in our home and the perfect piece to our family puzzle.
Happy birthday, sweet Hollyn!

Restart Button
Mom and dad had a night without the babies! What an amazing weekend it was. It's been such a busy season of life lately and we've been finding it hard to sit and just breathe, just the two of us. Of course we have moments of hanging out as a family and connecting then but speaking over a crying 2 year old and squeaking 1 year old isn't easy and we needed some calm.
Last week, I talked to my mom who happened to call right in the middle of a breakdown I was having so Saturday night, she called and offered to take the babies for a sleepover. We jumped at the opportunity to send them to Nona and Papa's house! We ordered in pizza, drank wine (and beer), caught up on some shows and actually slept in and had breakfast out. We were able to talk without fighting over the babies! Yahoo!
It's so important as parents we spend time focusing and being intentional on each other. I know I want recognition from Andrew and vice versa and it was exactly what we needed to feel refreshed and hit the restart button.
Even after getting the babies before church Sunday, we had a long afternoon nap together, which never happens, and it was just so nice. I can't even express how much I needed that!
How was your weekend?

This may be so silly to talk about but my hair is getting so long! I'm an avid hair extension wearer and haven't been using them since February or so, trying to embrace my natural length and create volume with product and I think it's been successful! I'm actually loving it. Of course I have days I want to go all mom status and chop it off but I just can't do that. I've come to far!

Everyday with Three
Happy Friday, everyone! It's been a while since I've shared a life update and I thought digging a little deeper into life with three kids now would be a good way to start.
We've adjusted seamlessly with Hollyn in the bunch and I jumped right back into life after having her. I was telling a friend the other day when Emery was born, we took 4 ish weeks to get back to normal routine of church and meals and just living but with Hollyn, I was at church two days after being home from the hospital. Like we jumped right back in!

Functionality for the Win
I'm getting myself out of my comfort zone more and more taking the kids to do things- the park, the mall, outings with friends, pool dates. We live in north Peoria and there's a community called Vistancia about 2 minutes from our house which has the best playground, club house and pool setup so when we just need to get out and go, it's our place to go hang. Thankfully, we have a friend who lives in that community so we get access through her. I'll be sad if she ever moves because that playground has a lot to live up to!

Body Positivity

Body positivity is a weird thing, right? You're pushed to love yourself and give yourself grace and embrace the "mom bod" and simply be happy in your own skin but it's a damn roller coaster. From times to acknowledging a change needs to happen or from the moment of saying F it, I'm going to love myself and be comfortable with who I am today.

The Baby Wearing Transition
You guys know how much I love a soft wrap for wearing my babies and it was just about that time I needed something else for transitioning and supporting my little love more. I still use a soft wrap occasionally but I switched over to a Happy Baby Carrier about 2 weeks ago and have absolutely loved it!

Mother's Day. What a heavy and emotional day for some mama's while for others it's joyous and beautiful and a celebration of how strong a woman you are. I fall into the latter for the most part but I can never help but feel some sort of aching deep down for those who have angel babies, babies in different homes, women struggling with infertility or having lost a child any time in their life.
It even stings my heart knowing Drake's mom shares this day with me as his stepmom. He calls every year and shares his heart and how he loves me, he tells me he's grateful for my example and position I model in his life but if I was in his mom's shoes, it would hurt.

Rolling With My Homies
Can I just say a double stroller is quite literally a game changer. I didn't realize what I've been missing the last 4 months, you guys! It's been on my wishlist to snag one so when Maxi-Cosi launched their newest stroller, the Dana for 2, it arrived quickly and we've used it every single day the last 2 weeks. Like every day.

Our Nursing Journey
I've been open about my struggle with nursing and how that journey went with Emery. I was determined it wouldn't end the same with Hollyn and I was defeated around 8 weeks when it did, indeed, end the same with Hollyn.
Shortly after having her, I posted our "cocktail" of trying to get my supply movin' and groovin' and with so much support from other moms, it helped make the transition from nursing to solely formula fed, easier. Fed is best. Amen and amen.

Four Things That Make Mommy-ing Easier
It's been two months of three kids and I'm slowing finding my niche and routine with getting in and out of stores while running errands or quite simply living life. It's not an easy thing tackling to do lists and managing a household, feeding a marriage, staying connected at church and close to God while also making sure you're kids are happy and seeing how much their mama loves them.
I am no mama expert but I have found a few things that make being on the go nice and simple (or as simple as it can be with a tween, toddler and newborn) to get it done and back home before the monster kids come out. Let's chat through them...

Christmas Traditions
top and skirt
Christmas is something I look forward to every single year and I always say I'll embrace the season even more with each passing year. I'll do all the fun things celebrating Christ's birth with the kids and bake all the yummy goodies and let the kids be on sugar highs for a month straight but then it comes and it's finally chilly out and we bundle up and maybe have one movie night with hot cocoa and we blink and we're already taking down the Christmas decorations.
